Delhi Pollution: City Wakes Up To ‘Very Poor’ AQI Amid Cold Wave

Delhi Pollution: Delhi woke up to another day of toxic air on Sunday, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘very poor’ category for the 2nd consecutive day. The overall AQI was recorded as 386 at 6 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).  GRAP Stage IV strictly remained in effect as a layer of smog engulfed parts of the city, reducing visibility.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there has been a slight increase in minimum temperature over Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded between 21 to 23°C and 07 to 09°C respectively.

What To Expect In The Coming Days?

Though the air quality has returned from ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’, there seems less possibility of improvement in the AQI in the coming days. Reports revealed that the wind speed on Saturday evening was four kmph making it difficult for pollutants to disperse. In the coming days, Delhi may experience continued poor air quality due to cold wave and unfavorable weather conditions.

Additionally, many residents were forced to seek refuge in night shelter homes as the cold wave gripped the city.

AQI In Different Parts Of Delhi

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the following AQIs were reported in different parts of Delhi as of 6 am today: Okhla Phase 2 (388), Alipur (407), Rohini (423), ITO (382), Ashok Vihar (339), Wajipur (432), Shadipur (387), Mundka (426), Jahangirpuri (437), Narela (472), DTU (352), R.K.
