Delhi Weather Update: Delhi is experiencing continuous rise in temperature, with mercury expected to soar to 40 degrees Celsius, next week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for heat wave in the national capital for two days. There has been significant increase in humidity levels also. A maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius has been predicted for April 8 and 9. Taking this into consideration, a heatwave alert has been issued for both days. Delhi experienced one of its hottest days on Thursday in the month of April. The maximum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius on April 3. This was also one of the highest temperatures recorded since March.
Delhi Weather Update: Forecast For Sunday, April 6
Talking about how the weather will be on Sunday, April 6, the forecast tells us a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius. The sky will remain mainly clear along with maximum humidity level of 47 per cent. No heatwave condition is predicted for today.
According to the IMD, there has been an appreciable fall in maximum temperatures over Delhi-NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are currently in the range of 35 to 37°C and 18 to 20°C respectively.
Weather Forecast For Next Week
Delhi residents are expected to witness hotter days in the upcoming week (April 7-13) as the maximum temperature is likely to soar over 40°C. A yellow alert for heatwave has been issued for April 8 and 9. The maximum temperature is expected to remain 41 degrees Celsius on both days. This also marks the first heatwave alert of the season by the IMD. Clear sky conditions have been forecasted until April 9, while the sky will remain partly cloudy on April 10 and 11. The maximum temperature in the upcoming week is expected in the range of 40-41 degrees Celsius.
Notably, MeT defines a heat wave as when the maximum temperature in the plains reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius or is 5 degrees above normal.

Precautionary Measures

Residents are advised to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the effects of rising temperatures. Keeping in view the weather forecast for April 7-13, and heatwave alert, people are advised to take extra care. They should stay hydrated, cover themselves when going outdoors, and include water-rich fruits and vegetables in their diets. They should refrain from engaging in heavy physical activities during the day.
