IMD Issues Orange Alert! Thunderstorm And Rain To Hit Capital; Here’s What To Expect This Weekend News24 –


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for severe weather conditions on Thursday, May 22. The forecast includes thunderstorms accompanied by frequent lightning, dust storms, and light to moderate rainfall. Notably, the national capital witnessed thunderstorm and rainfall on Wednesday, and the spell is likely to continue until May 24. The current weather conditions have provided much-needed relief to residents from the scorching heat.

Forecast For Thursday, May 22

The weather forecast for Delhi on Thursday indicates a pleasant day with the possibility of light to moderate rain. Cloudy sky condition is expected, with a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius. An orange alert has been issued by the IMD for thunderstorms, dust storms and rainfall. Gusty winds with speed 40-60 kmph temporarily reaching to 70 kmph during thunderstorm will prevail in the national capital.

These weather conditions may cause disruptions in visibility, transport, and outdoor activities. Therefore, residents are advised to stay indoors during stormy conditions, avoid open areas, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

What To Expect This Weekend

The weather for the rest of the week is expected to remain same, with IMD forecast of thunderstorms and rain until Sunday, May 25.The IMD has issued two yellow alerts for different weather conditions on May 23 and 24. A yellow alert for hot and humid condition has been issued for Friday, whereas another alert has been sounder for dust raising winds, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning on Saturday. The Meteorological department has ruled out any possibility of heatwave condition in the coming days.

May 23: Partly cloudy sky with very light to light rain/thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (speed 20-30 kmph) temporarily reaching to 40 kmph during thunderstorm with dust raising winds towards evening/night. Hot and humid conditions will prevail. The maximum temperature is expected to remain 40°C.

May 24: Very light to light rain/thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (speed 20-30 kmph) temporarily reaching to 40 kmph during thunderstorm with dust raising winds have been forecast. The maximum temperature will remain 40°C.

May 25: There is possibility of thunderstorm with rain on Sunday. Partly cloudy sky is predicted with maximum temperature of 38°C.
