Mob Thrashes Man Over Suspicion Of Selling ‘Cow Meat’ At A Shop Near Delhi University’s North Campus News24 –

In a shocking incident, a mob attacked a 44-year-old man on Wednesday night in northwest Delhi’s Vijay Nagar area over suspicion of selling cow meat. The incident took place close to Delhi University’s North campus. Police identified the owner of the grocery shop, called North East Store, as Chaman Kumar. A mob reportedly beat him between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

In a purported video, a group of men can be heard chanting slogans demanding that “those who kill cows be shot.” To control the situation, police heightened security on the ground. According to police, “meat samples have been seized and sent for forensic analysis to determine whether it is cow meat.”

“Upon suspicion of cow meat being sold, some members of the public manhandled the shopkeeper. He has been provided medical assistance and his medical examination is currently underway,” DCP (Northwest) Bhisham Singh was quoted by the Hindustan Times as saying.

About The Complaint

The DCP also said that the complainant alleged that he purchased one kilo of cow meat for ₹400 from the store. Students, including some from the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and local residents gathered at the scene, which prompted people to call the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Singh said that officers are collecting and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine exactly what happened.

The DCP added that the police have brought the situation under control and will take legal action once they receive the forensic report and complete the investigation.
