CBI Nabs IRS Officer And Associate While Taking Rs 25 Lakh Bribe News24 –

The CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch has arrested Indian Revenue Service (IRS) 2007 batch officer Amit Kumar Singhal. He was currently posted as Additional Director in Taxpayer Service Department, New Delhi. Singhal has been arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakhs. Another person Harsh Kotak has also been arrested along with him.

They have been accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 45 lakhs from the complainant in the name of helping with a tax-related matter in the Revenue Department. Out of the total amount, Rs 25 lakhs was decided to be given as the first installment. The CBI arrested both of them while accepting the installment amount.

Caught Red Handed

The complainant was threatened that if he does not pay the money, he will be trapped in legal cases and a heavy penalty will be imposed. As the complainant received threat, he informed the CBI. The case was registered on Saturday and investigation began. As a part of the investigation, search operations were conducted at several locations of the IRS officer and the private person in Delhi, Punjab and Mumbai.

Earlier, on May 30, the Odisha Vigilance Department raided Odisha Rural Works Division Chief Engineer and recovered a whopping cash of Rs 2.1 crore. The engineer allegedly threw Rs 500 cash bundles from the window after the raids. The vigilance department raided seven locations in the state.
The engineer had been identified as Baikuntha Nath Sarangi. The vigilance department recovered nearly Rs 1 crore from his flat in Bhubaneswar, while about Rs 1.1 crore has been recovered from his residence in Angul.
