Delhi-NCR Under Water! IMD Issues Red Alert As Heavy Rains Flood Noida, Delay 150+ Flights; Traffic Snarls Everywhere News24 –
A heavy spell of rain that started last night has caused significant disruptions across different parts of Delhi and Noida. Major roads in the national capital, including Connaught Place, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, to Vasant Kunj, have turned into rivers. Just a few hours of relentless rain were enough to trigger massive traffic snarls and vehicle breakdowns. The torrential downpour has not spared even residential societies. Severe waterlogging in basement parking lots and even entry gates has exposed the NCR’s crumbling infrastructure yet again.
IMD Sounds Red Alert! Flight Operations, Public Transport Hit
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert across the city, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by rain. The overnight rain has also led to disruptions in flight operations and waterlogging near the IGI Airport. According to Flightradar data, 105 flights faced delays on Saturday morning. While 13 incoming flights to IGI Airport were delayed, 92 departing flights also experienced delays. Passengers are requested to contact their respective airlines directly for the latest flight updates.
On the other hand, public transport, including buses and autos, was hit in some flooded pockets, adding to the inconvenience. Long wait times and a surge in prices were also reported by cab aggregators.
“Pata Nahi Kab Tak Paani Clear Hoga”: Noida Grapples With Monsoon Chaos
Monsoon showers have reignited discussions on Delhi-NCR’s preparedness for adverse weather. In Noida’s Sector 19, residents reported rainwater flooding ground-floor homes, severely disrupting commuting.
“Office nahi jaa sakte, paani bhara hua hai raat bhar se society ke neeche vale area mein,” said a resident in Noida’s Sector 19 A Block. “Raksha Bandhan hai, husband ko south delhi jaana tha par baarish ke rukne ka intezaar kar rahe hai, paani bhi pata nahi kab tak clear hoga,” said another resident. Meanwhile, many residents reported that they were forced to place bricks or wooden planks to cross the waterlogged area. In key intersections in Noida, such as Film City, Sector 18, etc, roads were waterlogged, leading to delays in office commutes.

From Mayur Vihar To Bharat Mandapam: Rain Disrupts Life Across Delhi
Even in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, main roads have turned into pools. “Aaj toh Rakhi bandhvane bhaiya ghar aane vale hai par baarish ke wajah se plan bigad gya hai. Road bhi clogged hui padi hai. Hope ki thodhe der mein paani beh jaaye, raaste saaf ho jaaye, ” said a local resident. Videos showed people wading through ankle-deep water in other areas as well.
Even in Posh areas like Bharat Mandapam, rain has triggered severe waterlogging outside gate no. 7. Mathura Road, Inderlok, Panchkuian Marg, and Minto Bridge are among the other places in Delhi that weren’t spared either.

Delhi Police Issues Advisory
The Delhi Police issued a comprehensive traffic advisory on Saturday in light of the relentless rain. The advisory outlines specific routes that are affected and suggests alternatives to ensure smoother traffic flow. It states: “Due to the Raksha Bandhan festival weekend and recent rains causing waterlogging at GTK Depot, Jahangirpuri, and Adarsh Nagar, traffic on the old GT Road is likely to be severely affected. To avoid congestion, commuters are advised to avoid taking the old GT Road.” Authorities have also urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.
Due to waterlogging at Gali No. 10, Anand Parbat, New Rohtak road, Traffic is being rerouted towards Sarai Rohilla. Additionally, traffic is also being diverted from Ashok Park Main Metro Station towards Punjabi Bagh.
In view of waterlogging at Zakhira Railway Underpass too, Road No. 40, traffic is affected in the surrounding areas, with diversions in place near Inderlok Chowk. Traffic from Shastri Nagar/KD Chowk is diverted towards Chaudhary Nahar Singh Marg and vice versa. Commuters should note that Delhi Metro services are operational and can help minimize travel disruptions.
Meanwhile, traffic Police personnel in Noida are present at different locations as well to ensure smooth traffic movement amid incessant showers. More rain is expected to lash Delhi-NCR till noon.
Delhi’s Grim Picture..
The situation paints a grim picture of the poor condition of the Delhi-NCR’s drainage system. The question remains – “How many more mornings like this will it take to draw the attention of the authorities to prioritize the issue of waterlogging?”
