Delhi Records Wettest August In 15 Years – What’s In Store For The First Week Of September? News24 –

Delhi Weather Update: The southwest monsoon, which advanced over Delhi on June 29, has completely drenched the national capital. According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi has experienced its wettest August in 15 years, recording a total of 399.8 mm of rainfall so far. In 2010, Delhi had received 455.8 mm of rainfall in August; and now it has already surpassed the last August’s total of 390.3 mm. A total of 14 rainy days have been recorded in August so far, with the number likely to increase as two days still remain.

Delhi has been reeling under heavy rainfall for the past few weeks, with waterlogging and damages reported form various areas. River Yamuna has also swelled in the national capital, prompting the administration to strengthen measures in response to a flood-like situation. It had been flowing near the danger mark for several days. Temporary shelters have been set up for residents in areas like Mayur Vihae-1 after an assessment of the situation. On Thursday, August 28, the river was flowing above the danger mark following heavy rain that lashed the city.

What’s In Store For The First Week Of September?

In such scenario, if you are wondering what September has in store or how the weather will be like in the coming days, we have prepared an outlook based on the IMD’s forecast.

According to the IMD’s weather update issued on Friday, August 29, active monsoon conditions are expected to prevail over Delhi during next 5 days. This implies that the city is going to witness moderate to heavy rainfall in the upcoming week. The first week of September is likely to bring intense rainfall, with thundershowers predicted on most days.

Owing to the rainy conditions, there has been marked fall in maximum temperature by 2-5°C and no large change in minimum temperatures in past 24 hours over Delhi. The maximum temperature is currently in the range of 30-31°C.

A total of 63.7 mm rainfall was recorded by 5:30 pm on Friday in Delhi. Notably, this amount of rainfall in a single day is considered moderate to heavy rainfall, especially for urban areas like Delhi.

The IMD has predicted rain/thundershowers until Thursday, September 4. The sky will remain generally cloudy throughout, with maximum temperature ranging between 30-33 degree Celsius.

This data indicates that the first week of September will see moderate to heavy rainfall as monsoon conditions remain active in the city.

The monsoon trough currently passes through Bikaner, Kota, Guna, Damoh, Pendra Road, Sambalpur, Puri and to east-southeastwards to central Bay of Bengal.
