Submerges Farmhouses, Displaces Villagers; Momnathal Worst Hit News24 –

Greater Noida News: The rising water level of Yamuna river has created havoc in Greater Noida. More than 1500 farm houses built on the banks of Yamuna between Sector 150 and 151 have been submerged. Hundreds of families from dozens of villages in the Khadar area have left their homes and are now taking shelter near the dam. Relief work by the administration is underway. However, the persistently rising water level continues to disrupt the daily lives of residents.

Night On The Dam, Day In Relief camps

The situation has become out of control due to the continuous rise in the water level the Yamuna over the past week. Villagers who are still living in their homes are staying awake through the night, keeping vigil to ensure that the family evacuates safely in case of an emergency. Houses, fields and roads have been submerged in several villages including Momnathal. In Sectors 150 and 151, the Yamuna’s water level has risen to nearly 15 feet near the dam, leaving only the roofs of the farmhouses visible. This scene resembles a full-fledged flood.

Momnathal Village Worst Hit

Momnathal village, located on the banks of Yamuna, has been one of the worst affected by the flood. More than 50 families have been forced to leave their homes and live in tents on the dam. These displaced locals, living under the open sky are struggling to access food and clean drinking water.

Increasing Diseases

People living on the dam are facing a severe shortage of basic facilities. Due to dirty water and unhygienic conditions, cases of diarrhea, fever, skin diseases are increasing rapidly. The medical team deployed in Sector-151 examined more than 150 patients and provided them with medicines on Friday. Most patients are suffering from cold, cough and allergies.

Limited Health Services

The health department has deployed a team of two doctors and seven health workers. Two ambulances are also present on the spot. Serious patients are being referred to higher hospitals. However, the affected people claim that relief material and medical facilities are still less than required.

Administration Assures Support

SDM Sadar Ashutosh Gupta assured that the administration is trying to provide all possible help to the affected people. Relief material, clean water and better health services are being provided in the flood affected areas. The situation is being constantly monitored.
