Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Inaugurates T2

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the future-ready Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 of at a ceremony on October 25, attended by the senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Bureau of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, CISF, and DIAL.

“Under the globally acknowledged and nation-wide respected leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi Ji, we are developing and transforming our airports into world-class transit hubs at an unprecedented pace. Handling nearly 50 per cent of the Northern region’s total passenger traffic and managing nearly 50,000 transfers every day, Delhi is emerging as a preferred transfer hub. And I believe this has been possible only because of DIAL’s continuous push for upgrading the infrastructure and enhancing passenger throughput,” the minister stated.

From this upgraded terminal, airlines like Air India and Indigo will together operate 120 domestic flights daily from October 26. This will enhance operations and provide a superior travel experience to passengers every day. DIAL, led by GMR AERO Asia’s largest private airport operator, undertook the comprehensive upgrade work to make T2 future ready to meet the growing passenger traffic.

The SBD facility will enhance passenger convenience as it empowers them with complete control over their journey. This independent baggage check-in facility will reduce the wait time of passengers.

Another salient feature is the passenger boarding bridges (PBB), featuring autonomous docking technology that will allow quicker and smarter aircraft handling. These PBBs have been procured from South Korea. There is a facility of elevated ramps to assist wheelchair passengers and optimally adjusted cabins for seamless boarding

The upgraded Terminal 2 features significant mechanical and electrical improvements, including renovated HVAC systems that ensure optimal air quality and passenger comfort throughout the terminal. Advanced fire safety systems have been installed to enhance security and safeguard passengers.

Moreover, it also features a new, high-resolution Flight Information Display System (FIDS) that provides real-time flight information with greater accuracy, enhancing passenger convenience. Specially designed signage has also been installed to ensure clear communication throughout the terminal, with particular focus on accessibility for Persons with Reduced Mobility.
