First calibration flight brings Noida International Airport in Jewar closer to operations; When will it be inaugurated? News24 –

In a major step toward operationalising the Noida International Airport in Jewar, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Friday successfully completed the first calibration flight at the airport. Jewar BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh confirmed the development, calling the day “historic” for Jewar. He asserted that, with the landing of the calibration flight, there are no longer any obstacle to receiving flight permission. He expressed optimism that the airport would be inaugurated at the earliest.
MLA Singh said, “Today is a historic day for Jewar, as the calibration flight landed at Noida International Airport. Just a few days ago, the Chief Minister visited and urged all officials to move forward with the airport’s construction. After the calibration flight landed today, there are no longer any obstacles preventing it from receiving flight permission. I am hopeful that the public will soon be able to board aeroplanes from here.”

About Calibration flights
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) oversees calibration flights to verify the accuracy and credibility of key air navigation and communication systems. The body then issues a licence to the airport after ensuring all security measures, from take-off to landing of the aircraft at the airport.
“Operation of a calibration flight is an important test that is necessary to confirm the accuracy and credibility of the airport and the flight equipment,” said Rakesh Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Noida International Airport Limited.
Calibration flights are special test flights conducted to ensure that an airport’s navigation, landing, and approach systems are working accurately before it begins regular commercial operations. Notably, they are not for passengers or cargo, they are purely for testing and verification. Earlier, a first flight validation test at the Noida Airport was conducted on December 9, 2024.
When will it be inaugurated?
The much-awaited Noida International Airport (NIA) was set to be inaugurated on October 30, 2025, as confirmed by the Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu. However, the date has been pushed further and it is likely to be inaugurated in the third week of November. Once operational, passengers from the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad, will benefit significantly, as the Jewar airport will serve as an alternative to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).
Travelling from the NCR to cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Dehradun, and Hubli will become easier with direct flight to these destinations. Reportedly, around 30 flights will operate from Noida Airport initially. Officials expect the new airport to significantly enhance connectivity in Uttar Pradesh and play a major role in reshaping India’s aviation landscape. India’s leading airline, IndiGo, is set to begin operating international flights from Jewar Airport.
The airport will boost tourism, trade, and commerce in the region. The Jewar airport will offer an alternative to Delhi’s IGI Airport, allowing passengers to board international flights directly from Noida. The project was announced in 2021 and is constructed in Jewar of Gautam Buddha Nagar district.
The first phase of the airport will feature one runway and one terminal, with the capacity to handle traffic of 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion of all four development phases, the airport will be able to cater to 70 million passengers per year.
