Delhi BJP MP from Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal on the occasion of Delhi Foundation Day, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging that India’s capital be restored to its historic and revered name, ‘Indraprastha.’ In his letter, the MP has proposed the renaming of other key landmarks as well, reflecting the cherished heritage.
BJP MP suggests renaming the capital to Indraprastha
According to Khandelwal, the name ‘Indraprastha’ is not merely symbolic, but embodies the soul of India’s civilisation, where Dharma, Nyaya, and Lok Kalyan have flourished since ancient times. In a post on X, the MP emphasised that Delhi deserves her true name, which is Indraprastha. He highlighted that from the time of the Pandavas to the present, Delhi has always been the heart of India’s culture, wisdom, and power.
Suggesting that Delhi’s prominent landmarks should reflect its civilizational heritage, Khandelwal has recommended renaming a few more places which are: Old Delhi Station as Indraprastha Junction, IGI Airport as Indraprastha Airport and installation of grand statues of the Pandavas, who are considered timeless symbols of courage, sacrifice, and righteousness throughout the capital.
Khandelwal draws Parallels with Ayodhya, Kashi and Prayagraj
Drawing parallels with cities such as Ayodhya, Kashi, and Prayagraj, which have reclaimed their ancient glory, Khandelwal stressed that Delhi too must reconnect with its historical soul. “Just as Ayodhya, Kashi, and Prayagraj have regained their ancient glory, it is time that Delhi too reconnects with her true soul. Let the capital of Bharat reflect our civilizational pride and the vision of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s Cultural Renaissance,” he wrote on X.
He reiterated that this change is not about the past, but about reclaiming Delhi’s identity for the future. “This change is not about the past, it’s about reclaiming our identity for the future. Let the world know, Delhi is not just a city, it is Indraprastha, the City of Dharma,” he added.
