Is Chandni Chowk Market Open Today? Amid the ongoing investigations on Delhi car blast case, Chandni Chowk, one of the capital’s busiest markets, remains technically open today. However, security has been significantly tightened around the Red Fort area following a recent blast in Delhi that claimed multiple lives.
Is Chandni Chowk Market Open?
Authorities have not issued any official notification regarding the closure of the market. But many shopkeepers have chosen to keep their shops closed, citing safety concerns and fear among visitors. Police and security personnel have increased patrolling in and around the market, ensuring vigilance major points. Commuters and shoppers are advised to check security updates and exercise caution while visiting the area.
Market Closed on Tuesday
Notably, Chandni Chowk market had been closed on Tuesday following a blast near the Red Fort, as announced by the Chandni Chowk Traders’ Association. “There is fear among traders after the blast,” said association president Sanjay Bhargaw, whose shop is located just a few hundred metres from the site. “The explosion was so strong that our entire building shook and people were running everywhere,” he added.
While the market generally remains open seven days a week, traders chose to shut down due to safety and security concerns. The Delhi Traffic Police have also imposed strict restrictions around the Red Fort area. Vehicles are not allowed on Netaji Subhash Marg between Chatta Rail Cut and Subhash Marg Cut until further order. Security at Lal Quila Metro Station has also been heightened and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
Probe transferred to NIA
Meanwhile, transferring the car blast probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the agency to submit its investigation report at the earliest as well as instructed the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to analyse and match the samples collected from the site and provide a comprehensive report. His order came on Tuesday while chairing the security review meeting at his residence.
