Delhi Student Suicide: Four staff members, including the headmistress of a reputed Delhi school, have been suspended for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 16-year-old Class 10 student, whom he named in his final note. Their suspension came following the registration of an FIR that links them to the case. According to reports, the Delhi government has also ordered an investigation into the matter.
As per the suspension order, those relieved from duty are the headmistress for Classes IV–X, the coordinator for Classes 9-10, along with two teachers. The minor died by suicide by jumping from the platform of Rajendra Place Metro station on November 18. He left behind a note blaming his teachers for subjecting him to mental harassment. Meanwhile, his family has demanded stringent action against the accused teachers and the school principal.
Committee Set Up To Probe Allegations
Officials from the Delhi Education Department on Thursday said that a dedicated committee has been set up to probe the allegations made. According to the FIR filed, the minor boy left for school at 7:15 am on Tuesday. Shortly after, around 2:45 pm, his father received a call informing him that his son was found injured near the Rajendra Place Metro Station. The boy was immediately rushed to BL Kapoor Hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
Father Alleges Son Was ‘Mocked’ By Teacher
According to the deceased’s father, his son fell and was mocked by a teacher for “overacting” during a dramatics class on Tuesday. The teenager had previously complained to his parents about the harassment he faced from the teaching staff. His parents even filed complaints with the school, but no action was taken, reports added.
The boy’s father told news agency PTI that they did not take stricter action earlier because the Class 10 board exams were approaching. He said the exams were just a month or two away, and since 20 internal marks come from the school, he didn’t want to create any problems. The family had also reassured the teenager that he would be shifted to another school after the exams.
What Was Written In The Suicide Note?
In a suicide note found in the minor’s school bag, he purportedly wrote, “Sorry mummy, aapka itni bar dil toda, ab last bar todunga. School ki teachers ab hai hi aise, kya bolu (Sorry mummy, I broke your heart many times, and I am doing it for the last time.) He further mentioned that whoever discovered the letter could call a specific phone number. Additionally, he requested that his organs be donated if they were “in a condition to work.”
The boy mentioned the principal and two teachers by name, saying his final wish was for action to be taken against them so that no other student would have to go through what he did. He apologised to his 20-year-old brother for being rude to him and told his father he was sorry for not being able to become a good man like him. He also thanked his mother for always standing by him and asked her to keep supporting his father and brother.
