Delhi: A Passing Out and Swearing-in Parade ceremony of freshly trained cadres was held at the Delhi Police Academy last Wednesday. The 291 newly trained recruits of the Delhi Police are now ready to step into their roles. The knowledge gained during the training period will now be applied in real field operations. According to reports, the batch comprised 135 probationary sub-inspectors (PSIs) from Batch 56, 133 recruit constables from Batch 125, 4 DANIPS probationers from Batch 25, and 19 trainees from other cadres.
How Delhi Police train its new recruits?
One of the most disciplined and smartest forces, all Delhi Police trainees undergo extraordinary exercises to be prepared to face challenging tasks. Before taking on their respective roles across the national capital, they complete months-long academic, physical, and specialised training.
The trainees come from diverse academic backgrounds. The training programme at the Delhi Police Academy included various academic modules on police procedures. Among them were criminal law, investigation techniques, criminology, forensic science, and cybercrime, concentrated on the applicability of the new criminal laws. “Trainees were also exposed to the pillars of the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS),” a statement from the Delhi Police said.
‘Blindfolded firing to unarmed combat’ – Trainees undergo…
The physical training activities varied from firing skills, unarmed combat, fitness activities, to anti-terrorist measures. Games, yoga, and gym sessions are all covered at the Delhi Police Academy. One of the most difficult parts of the training session is when the soldiers are taught blindfolded firing, Aajtak reported. They load their weapons and fire without looking after estimating the direction of the target. This exercise aims to prepare them to face all kinds of situations, such as a lack of darkness, smoke, or when the enemy is hiding.
Sun, fatigue, and weather, no excuses are entertained here. Training begins at 6 am sharp, and sometimes continues until 1 pm, according to Aajtak. Recruits line up as soon as the mess opens in the afternoon. Training doesn’t end here. With the onset of dusk, at 5 pm, the test of body-toning, endurance, and strength begins. Although the body is worn out by the day’s training, the police duty never finishes.
