Delhi-NCR weather: As cold intensifies in the northern parts of the country, dense fog conditions gripped Delhi-NCR on Monday, December 29. Visibility levels dropped sharply across Delhi, significantly impacting flight operations and daily movement. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for very dense fog, with cold conditions persisting and temperatures remaining low. The worsening weather has also prompted advisories from the airport operator and airlines, warning of disruptions. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are expected to remain 22 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Flights delayed at IGI airport

As the visibility dropped to zero due to dense fog during early morning hours, Delhi Airport said that flight operations were being carried out under CAT III instrument landing system. In a passenger advisory, the airport cautioned travellers about possible delays and cancellations, adding that ground teams were actively assisting passengers to ensure smooth movement and minimising inconvenience.

Delhi Airport in its passenger advisory stated, “Flight operations are currently being conducted under CAT III conditions due to dense fog, which may result in delays and cancellations. Our ground teams are actively assisting passengers to ensure smooth travel. We sincerely regret for any inconvenience caused.”

Delhi-NCR weather: Airlines issue advisory

Airlines operating to and from Delhi also issued advisory as dense fog impacted flight operations on Monday. IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet alerted passengers about the disruptions and changes in flight schedules.

IndiGo said, “Delhi and #Hindon (Airport) continue to remain wrapped in chilly winter air and lingering fog this morning. The fluctuating visibility has led to changes in flight schedules, and operations may be slower than usual as conditions evolve. Our teams on-ground are prioritising safety and compliance with visibility requirements. We recommend keeping a tab on your flight status via… If your flight is impacted, you can conveniently rebook your journey or claim a refund through…Our airport teams are also available to assist should you need support while at the terminal. Once the weather settles, operations will gradually stabilise, and flights will depart as planned.”

SpiceJet cautioned that adverse weather conditions in Delhi could impact departures, arrivals and consequential flights and advised passengers to check their flight status. “Due to bad weather (poor visibility) in Kolkata (CCU), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via,” the advisory stated.

Meanwhile, Air India, in its advisory stated that as weather forecast indicates dense fog with low visibility in Delhi, flight operations may get impacted due to it.
