Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Delhi-NCR continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions for a second consecutive day, as dense fog and chilly northwesterly winds led to a sharp drop in temperatures. The maximum temperature was recorded at 16.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (January 7, 2026), marginally higher than the 15.7°C recorded on Tuesday.
No larger change expected in coming days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a steep rise in the maximum temperature on Thursday, with no larger change in the coming days in the national capital region. The sky is likely to remain mostly clear during the next 24 hours and partly cloudy thereafter. Visibility significantly dropped at Palam and Lodhi Road areas on Wednesday, while a few places witnessed soft sunlight. The westerly winds prevailed with a speed of up to 13 kmph in the past 24 hours over Delhi.
Delhi weather forecast for next 5 days
The Met Department has predicted moderate to dense fog in Delhi and upper-level fog to prevail across the Indo-Gangetic Plain in the region on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The cold is expected to intensify over northern India until January 15. A yellow alert has been issued today, predicting moderate fog at many places with dense fog at isolated places during the morning hours. Thereafter, a partly cloudy sky with shallow to moderate fog has been forecast until January 13, 2026.
AQI update
A brief improvement in the air quality has been witnessed in Delhi-NCR over the past few days. The Air Quality Index continues to remain under the ‘poor’ category. It plunged to 279 at 7 am today, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Many areas woke up shrouded by a layer of fog and reduced visibility.
