Traffic shut from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, Metro timings updated, check diversions and alternate routes
Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, a parade rehearsal will be held in Delhi today, January 24, from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. As a result, traffic will be completely closed between Vijay Chowk, Kartavya Path, and India Gate. In view of this, elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the parade rehearsal, including complete traffic closure between the three designated areas.
Check diversions and alternate routes
According to traffic police officials, cross-traffic on Kartavya Path from Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Manek Shah Road will be restricted from 10:15 am until the parade concludes at 12:30 pm. Commuters can use Mother Teresa Crescent Road, Sikandra Road, Ferozshah Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, and Motilal Nehru Marg as alternative routes. The traffic police have urged commuters to adhere to traffic rules during the parade rehearsal. For the latest updates, people are advised to follow the traffic police’s official Facebook page, X handle, and helpline.
Instructions for public
Apart from these measures, general instructions have also been issued for public. They have been directed to immediately report any unidentified object or suspicious person to the nearest police officer on duty. Aerial activities such as paragliding, paramotoring, hang gliding, UAV/UAS, microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small powered aircraft, quadcopters, or parajumping from aircraft will remain prohibited in Delhi-NCR until February 1.
Delhi metro timings update for Republic Day parade
Delhi metro timings have also been updated, with services operating from 3 am to accommodate commuters during the Republic Day celebrations. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has appealed to passengers to use the metro as much as possible to avoid security checks and reach Kartavya Path easily. Parking facilities will also be available at all stations on the metro network for the convenience of passengers attending the ceremony. However, entry and exit will be temporarily closed at some stations during the Republic Day parade, including ITO, Central Secretariat, and Lal Qila stations. Entry and exit will resume after the parade concludes.
