Delhi traffic alert: Diversions announced for Beating Retreat ceremony


Delhi Traffic Advisory: Traffic movement will be affected across Central Delhi on Thursday, January 29, in view of the Beating Retreat Ceremony and illumination of Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, and Parliament House. In a comprehensive traffic advisory, the Delhi Police has outlined major restrictions and diversions today in and around Vijay Chowk from 2 pm to 9:30 pm. Commuters must avoid the mentioned routes and plan their journey accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

Diversion points and traffic restrictions

According to the Delhi Police advisory, Vijay Chowk will remain closed for general traffic. Vehicle movement will be restricted on the following stretches:

  • Rafi Marg between R/A Sunehri Masjid and R/A Krishi Bhavan.
  • Raisina Road from R/A Krishi Bhavan towards Vijay Chowk.
  • Beyond R/A Dara Shikoh Road, R/A Krishna Menon Marg and R/A Sunehri Masjid towards Vijay Chowk.
  • Kartavya Path between Vijay Chowk and “C” Hexagon.

Alternate routes

The general public and motorists are advised to take the following alternate routes: Ring Road, Vande Matram Marg, Aurobindo Marg, Madarsa T-Point, Safdarjung Road-Kemal Ataturk Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road, Minto Road.

Diversion for buses

Commuters must note that D.T.C and other city buses would be rerouted from their normal route to avoid traffic congestion around the event venue and India Gate.

Diversion of buses will be as follows:

  • Buses going towards Central Secretariat and Connaught Place from Shanti Path, Vinay Marg, Sardar Patel Marg will be diverted to Panchsheel Marg, Simon Bolivar Marg-Vande Matram Marg-R/A Shankar Road-Sheikh Mujibur Rahman road.
  • Buses heading to the Central Secretariat will be halted at Udyan Marg and diverted to Kali Bari Marg-Mandir Marg-Shankar road.
    3. Connaught Place-bound buses will be rerouted to Mandir Marg- Kali Bari Marg -G.P.O.-Baba Kharak Singh Marg to reach Connaught Place. They will return via Bhagat Singh Marg, Peshwa Road, Mandir Marg, Shankar Road, and Vande Matram Marg.
