Alia Bhatt’s Action-Drama Registers One Of The Lowest Openings Of Her Career

Jigra Box Office Collection: Alia Bhatt has returned to the theatres with her latest action-thriller movie ‘Jigra’. The movie revolves around an elder sister on a mission to rescue her brother from jail as he gets sentenced to death. The movie has overall received a good response from the critics and audiences but its box office performance has been underwhelming as compared to Alia’s other film. ‘Jigra’ opened to approximately Rs 4 crores, which is less than her flop films ‘Kalank’ and ‘Shandaar’.

Jigra Box Office Collection:

‘Jigra’ collected Rs 4.55 crore on day 1, which is even less than ‘Shaandaar’ and ‘Kalank’ and both of these movies had high openings despite being flops. Apart from Alia’s 2014 movie ‘Highway’, her movies have opened to more than Rs 7 crore.

The movie witnessed a slight increase in its numbers on day 2 with Rs 6.55 crore earnings, according to the website Sacnilk. Its total collection now stands at Rs 11.1 crore.

‘Jigra’ earlier got into a controversy after producer Karan Johar was blamed for giving the movie Alia without Vasan Bala’s permission. For the unversed, Vasan Bala recalled how Karan sent the rough script of ‘Jigra’ to Alia. He was not happy about it because he did not do any grammar or spell check or write any nice hero entry in it. He told Tried And Refused Productions, “I had written a very kachha pakka email, stream of consciousness thoughts… sent it to Karan and 6-7 hours later, he called saying that I have already sent it to Alia and I was really not happy with it. I was like I would have at least done some spell check, grammar check, hygiene, written some very nice hero entry… That email was sent and I asked Karan ‘Why did you do this?’ He said ‘No, no this is how it works. Then he said we’ll meet in a couple of days.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Times Now, Vedang Raina called Vasan Bala a ‘brilliant’ director. He said, “He is so easy to work with. He is very creative on set and things change with the flow of the day, which took time to get used to but I love that process of shooting. Yes, his previous films were a bit different. There was always humour to fall back on. Jigra is still quirky in its own ways but it revolves around a strong emotional core. He’s just brilliant with everything he does though.”

On the work front, Alia was last seen in ‘Hearts Of Stone’. She will next star in ‘Love & War’ with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
