What Is ALS Disease? Euphoria Actor Eric Dane Reveals His Diagnosis With This Neurological Disorder


Eric Dane, who is known for playing Cal Jacobs in the popular show Euphoria, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This news came as a shock for his fans and well wishers but assured everyone that he is currently surrounded by his loving family. But what is ALS, which has become a topic of discussion on the internet.

All About ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis):

ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a rare neurological disorder. According to National Insititute of Neurolofical Disorders and Stroke, it affects motor neurons, which is the nerve cells in brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement and breathing. The person diagnosed with ALS will see that their muscles to weaken and twitch as motor neurons degenerate and die and stop sending messages to the muscles.

The brain also might lose its ability to control voluntary movements such as walking, talking, chewing and other functions, as well as breathing in some individuals. Its symptoms include muscle twitch, cramps and weakness, difficulty chewing or swallowing and slurred and nasal speech.

This disease is mostly common in the people between 55 and 75 and mostly affects men.

Eric Dane’s Reaction to being Diagnosed with ALS:

While speaking to People, Dane said, “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

He also revealed that he will continue working in Euphoria. He said, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.” Eric is seen as Cal Jacob in Euphoria.
