‘No Filmmaker Wants To Hurt’


Telugu film director Gopichand Malineni’s first Bollywood movie, Jaat, falls into controversy just a few days after its release due to a church scene. An FIR was made against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda and three other people for hurting their sentiments. While speaking to MidDay, the director talked about the scene that caused the trouble and shared his views.

Gopichand Reacts To Scene

Gopichand spoke about the controversial scene in Jaat, where Randeep Hooda and his group were trying to scare the people by standing before a crucifix. Addressing the scene, the director said, “The censor board didn’t mention anything for the trailer cut, but later, it told us to blur the background in the film print. It was done even before people objected. If a film has to be a blockbuster, it has to be watched by as many people as possible. No filmmaker wants to hurt any people or community. We want to entertain them.”

Film Altered After FIR

Jaat’s team released a statement related to the controversial scene on Friday, where they clarified that their intentions were not to harm anyone’s beliefs. They mentioned, “There has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. The scene has been removed from the film with immediate effect. Our intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and have taken a quick action of deleting the scene from the film. We sincerely apologize to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt.”

Case Filed Against Jaat

As per the report of PTI, a complaint was against the whole team of Jaat, which said that the movie contains scenes that don’t represent Jesus Christ and the Christian prayers in a good way. The person who complained, Viklav Gold, also mentioned that the movie was released at the wrong time, which is close to a special week for the Christian religion, that is Holy week. SHO of the Jalandhar Cantonment police station, Sanjeev Kumar, said that the complaint was written on Wednesday evening, which is lodged under section 299. He mentioned that actors Randeeep Hooda, Sunny Deol, Vineet Kumar, director Gopichand and producer Naveen from Mythri Movie Makers have been named in the FIR.
