Last week, American film entertainment company Warner Bros announced the actors who will play the characters of the upcoming HBO series of Harry Potter. John Lithgow later shared his excitement about being in the role of the highly renowned character Albus Dumbledore in the film franchise. The veteran actor appeared on BBC’s The One Show, where he expressed how he was “very intimidated” to become Dumbledore.
John Lithgow is the first American to play the role of Dumbledore after Irish actors Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, along with the English actor Jude Law before him. People were concerned about how, as an American actor, he would do justice to the iconic character. However, Lithgow assured Potterheads he would do his best to play the iconic British role.
Responding to the backlash over his casting, Lithgow said, “I will be following the great Michael Gambon. I’m not an Englishman, although I’ve played one on TV. I remind everyone that I did play Winston Churchill on The Crown and did just fine. It’s an enormous thrill. But I know there were plenty of people appalled that an American should be hired to play the ultimate English wizard. But, I will do my best.”
About the cast of Harry Potter series
The story of the show will be the same based on the book from JK Rowling’s series titled Harry Potter. It is about a boy wizard who fights against the antagonist Lord Voldemort.
Aside from Lithgow, other actors were announced in the cast as well. In the upcoming series, Nick Frost will play the role of Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer will be seen as Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu to be Professor Severus Snape, Luke Thallon is the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse adds to the cast as caretaker Argus Filch.
