Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency Lands In Trouble Again Over Alleged Breach of Contract And Facts Distortion

Kangna Ranaut’s controversial movie Emergency has ended up being in trouble again, Author Coomi Kapoor has alleged that Manikarnika Films Private Limited and Netflix have intentionally distorted facts with malicious intent. As per a report by PTI, Kapoor sent out a legal notice to Manikarnika Films and claimed that Manikarnika Productions has evidently breached the contract.

As per the Author, the film’s production house exploited her name by bolstering claims that the movie is based on her book ‘The Emergency: A Personal History’.

Kapoor further reported that her daughter is a lawyer, and it was on her advice that she thought of including two major clauses in her case. She further iterated that while the director has full freedom to create the film, Nothing should be altered that further contradicts historical facts that are available in the public domain.

The Author has further iterated that at the time the contract was signed, she was informed that only a specific chapter on former prime minister Indira Gandhi from her book would be refreshed for the film, – However, upon the release, the author was surprised to find that the film’s title was very much similar to her book.

The Author has accused the circumstance as a deliberate attempt to get further traction for the film. As per the Author, the film has various historical inaccuracies- she added that in real life the emergency was not removed after Mrs Indira Gandhi lost the general election in March 1977.

Kapoor has further demanded immediate compensation for severe reputational professional, emotional and financial damages suffered by her due to the reckless and illegal conduct of the movie makers. “If you fail to comply, our client reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings to seek appropriate remedies for this egregious violation of her rights,” the notice said.
