Mike Peters, who was the frontman of the popular rock band, passed away on April 29, 2025, at the age of 66. He was reportedly suffering from blood cancer. He was diagnosed with fast-growing lymphoma and was getting treatement since last year. The news of his demise was announced at The Alarm’s Instagram page. Many fans penned heartfelt notes while remembering Mike Peters and his incredible work.
Who Was Mike Peters?
Mike Peters started his music career in 1975 by making debut with a band called Hairy Hippie. He later formed another band called The Toilets in 1976 and created another band named Seventeen in 1978 with MacDonald, Dave Sharp and Nigel Twist.
He joined The Alarm in 1981 and soon became popular. However, Mike left the band in 1991 and later reunited with everyone in 2003.
He was first diagnosed with cancer in 1995 but made a recovery and started working again. In 2005, he was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and co-founded the Love Hope Strength Foundation to raise funds and awareness in order to benefit people with cancer and leukaemia.
In 2022, he shared that his CLL has relapsed and started his chemotherapy.
While sharing the heartbreaking news of Mike Peters’ demise, the official page of The Alarm wrote, “Michael Peters. 25 February 1959-29 April 2025. Totally Free.”
Fans were heartbroken by this news and called him a ‘hero’. One Instagram user wrote, “I had to explain to my wife why I gasped beside her. I told her that a hero has passed away. She asked if I knew him and I said that I never had a chance to meet him but that he’s been a part of my life for over 40 years. Thank you for always giving it your all, keeping the faith and sharing your journey. A legend and an inspiration!”
Another fan recalled his experience of attending a concert of The Alarm. He wrote, “A true hero. I first went to see The Alarm when I was 5 years old. My older brother Alexander – who has quadriplegic cp & is non-verbal – had been going to see The Alarm since the 80s and was a friend of Mike’s. Any time he was in town for a gig he would make time to see Alexander. Some of the greatest memories of my life have involved the Alarm, from seeing Mike do an acoustic tour at King Tuts and impromptu changing the lyrics of “Spirit of 76” in honour of Alexander to the time he had my brother’s wheelchair moved from the back of the room to the side of the stage so he could see the band. I spent decades playing Alarm records for my brother before coming to realise they were also my favourite band. Getting to see him play at The Gathering in 2023 with Alexander was amazing. Walk Forever By Our Sides Mike.”
