Anti-Piracy App To Be Introduced At WAVES Summit 2025 – What Is It And How Does It Work? News24 –

The World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) kicks off in Mumbai on May 1, 2025. The inaugural edition of the WAVES 2025 summit aims to establish India as a global entertainment hub. Technological advancements that will shape the future of content creation will also be in the spotlight during the summit. These will include Ntrack, an anti-piracy application developed by Bharath Nalubola. The subscription-based app aims to deal with the issue of piracy that has been hitting the Indian film industry hard, affecting several big-ticket movies like Sikandar and Indian 2.

The Technologies Behind Ntrack

It took Nalubola two years to build the app. It can protect both live and pre-recorded content, he told mid-day. The app, which is primarily aimed at producers and streaming platforms, is based on two technologies — watermarking and Digital Rights Management (DRM).

How Does The Anti-Piracy App Ntrack Work?

DRM manages access based on geo-location and user limits, and provides certificates or passkeys to verified subscribers. Nalubola tells mid-day: “It controls who can watch the video, where they can watch it from, and how many times. Only people with subscriptions can get through the security gate.”

When a film is released in theatres, the producer provides a subscription or passkey to the exhibitors. This allows the producer to monitor in real-time where the film is being screened, and to detect if it’s being shown outside the designated locations.

Watermarking is essential for detecting piracy. He explains: “If the content is duplicated or illegally streamed, watermarking helps us trace it back to the source [of piracy]. So, it handles theft detection. Apps like ours could dramatically curb piracy. Imagine if a film like Sikandar had this layer of protection. Leaks could be blocked before they spread.”

Ravi Teja Joins The Fight Against Piracy

Ravi Teja, popular Telugu actor and producer, is also part of the initiative. Nalubola further says: “Every year, the industry loses billions to piracy. With AI tools making it harder to track theft, there is an urgent need for effective solutions. Our solution gives power back to both indie creators and studios.”
