Bollywood producer Prerna Arora has landed in a legal trouble after being booked by Versova police for allegedly cheating co-producer Kashish Khan (aka Nafisa Khan) of ₹1.33 crore. The case registered on April 30 accuses Arora and her mother Protima Arora of fraud, forgery, and criminal breach of trust in relation to the 2018 film Fanney Khan which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Rajkummar Rao.
According to the FIR, Khan convinced her to invest ₹50 lakh by claiming she had a fixed deposit of ₹60 crore but couldn’t secure a loan against it due to technical issues and needed help to finance the film. The agreement promised Khan a return of ₹10 lakh, 5% profit share, and co-producer credit. However, the contract was signed with Protima Arora, director of Sudha Kriraz Entertainment Private Limited and not directly with Prerna Arora.
When the film was released in 2019, Khan’s name was missing from the credits, and no profits were shared. When Khan confronted, Arora allegedly used emotional excuses about her father’s illness and showed Khan what later proved to be a forged fixed deposit certificate worth ₹60 crore.
Between March 2018 and January 2019, Khan transferred an additional ₹83 lakh. And when Khan was seeking repayment, cheques issued by Arora allegedly bounced. Only then the Economic Offences Wing discover the alleged forgery in an another fraud case.
The Versova police have now registered charges under IPC Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using a forged document as genuine).
