Akshay Kumar To Play The Villain Once Again? Superstar Reunites With Saif Ali Khan Reunite For Oppam Remake
Bollywood’s iconic duo Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are all set to reunite after 17 years for the Hindi remake of the acclaimed Malayalam film Oppam (2016) which originally featured Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. The remake will be directed by Priyadarshan and is scheduled to go on floors in August 2025 and will hit theaters in 2026. This marks the first collaboration between the two stars since their 2008 film ‘Tashan.’
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Akshay Kumar will take on the villain’s role and Saif Ali is reportedly playing the lead. The source revealed, “The film is essentially a high-stakes battle between Akshay and Saif, and they’re going to go all out against each other. It’s going to be a gripping and intense watch.”
An insider also told Hindustan Times that both actors were thrilled after reading the script “Akshay and Saif have always enjoyed working with each other and admired each other’s work. The moment they read the script, they knew they were on board.” While official confirmation is still awaited, the buzz around the project is growing rapidly.
In the original, Mohanlal played a blind man who gets caught up in a murder case and ends up as the prime suspect.
Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan currently stars in Jewel Thief on Netflix, alongside Jaideep Ahlawat and Nikita Dutta. The actor also has Go Goa Gone 2 in the queue, which is the sequel to a 2013 hit action comedy movie starring Kunal Kemmu and Vir Das.
Where as, Akshay Kumar is basking in the success of Kesari Chapter 2, also starring Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan which continues to perform well at the box office. Akshay also has Housefull 5 directed by Tarun Mansukhani which is set to release on 6th June 2025.
