Reliance Industries’ Jio Studios Withdraws Trademark Application For Title ‘Operation Sindoor’; Issues Clarification

The Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, 2025, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Amid this, it was reported that Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries filed applications with the Trade Marks Registry on Wednesday to register ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a word mark. However, the company has now issued a clarification on the news and revealed that they have withdrawn the application. In an official statement, Reliance Industries said that the application was ‘filed inadvertently by a junior person without authorisation’.

The official statement read, “Reliance Industries has no intention of trademarking Operation Sindoor, a phrase which is now a part of the national consciousness as an evocative symbol of Indian bravery. Jio Studios, a unit of Reliance Industries, has withdrawn its trademark application, which was filed inadvertently by a junior person without authorisation.”

“Reliance Industries and all its stakeholders are incredibly proud of Operation Sindoor, which came about in response to a Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Operation Sindoor is the proud achievement of our brave Armed Forces in India’s uncompromising fight against the evil of terrorism. Reliance stands fully in support of our Government and Armed Forces in this fight against terrorism. Our commitment to the motto of ‘INDIA FIRST’ remains unwavering,” it concluded.

In another statement, Reliance Industries Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani praised Indian Armed Forces and PM Narendra Modi for his leadership. It read, “We are very proud of our Indian Armed Forces for Operation Sindoor. India stands united, fierce in resolve and unshakable in purpose, against the scourge of all forms of terrorism. Under the bold and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Armed Forces have responded with precision and power to every provocation from across the border. Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has demonstrated that India will never remain silent in the face of terror and that we will not tolerate a single attack on our soil, on our civilians, or on the brave men and women who defend our nation. The last few days have shown that every threat to our peace will be met with firm and decisive action.”

For the unversed, Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 Indians. The situation was constantly monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi throughout the night, as per sources. All nine targets were successfully struck, sources further added. Indian forces selected the targets with the intent of eliminating top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leaders involved in planning and executing terrorist attacks in India.
