No Mawra Hocane In Sanam Teri Kasam 2? Here’s What The Filmmakers Said

Following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack and ‘Operation Sindoor’, tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified, in a major move the makers of Sanam Teri Kasam 2 have officially announced that Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane will no longer be part of the film’s sequel.

Filmmakers confirmed the decision in a statement reported by NDTV. They expressed their disappointment at the silence of several Pakistani artists including those who have previously worked in India and added that some of these artists even criticised India’s response to the attacks.

“Terrorism of any kind, against any nation, state, or people must be condemned unequivocally,” their statement read. “What’s even more disheartening in this case is the silence, or worse, the statements of certain actors who have worked in India, received immense love, respect, and opportunity, yet failed to condemn such acts of terror against India. In fact, some have gone so far as to criticise India’s legitimate steps to fight terrorism. In light of this, we stand by our government and fully support its decision. Nation first and always. Jai Hind.”

The announcement came after online backlash against Pakistani celebrities, including Mawra Hocane, who played the female lead in the original Sanam Teri Kasam (2016). India first banned Fawad Khan’s upcoming film ‘Abir Gulaal’, which was originally scheduled for release on May 9, was not allowed to release in India. Film Federations in India openly opposed the release of the film.

Actor Harshvardhan Rane, who starred alongside Hocane in the film, refused to do the sequel if the orignal cast is repeated. He further criticised Mawra’s comment on India after Operation Sindoor.

While declining working in Sanam Teri Kasam 2 if the original cast returns, Harshvardhan wrote, “While I am grateful for the experience however as things stand, and after reading the direct comments made about my country, I have made a decision to respectfully decline to be a part of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ part 2 if there is any possibility of the previous cast being repeated.”

Mawra made her Bollywood debut with ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ in 2016. The movie also stars Anurag Sinha, Manish Chaudhari, Murli Sharma and Sudesh Berry. It was later released in theaters again a few months ago.
