Frame By Frame Similarities? Sitaare Zameen Par Trailer Draws Sharp Criticism Online And Calls For Boycott
Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par may have struck an emotional chord with audiences, but it has also sparked controversy on social media. Just after the trailer dropped, netizens pointed out that the film appears to be a frame by frame remake of the 2023 Hollywood film Champions, which itself was an English language adaptation of the Spanish film Campeones.
The trailer of Sitaare Zameen Par shows Aamir Khan in the role of a basketball coach mentoring a team of individuals with disabilities. The similarities from the originals have been pointed out with users surfacing that scene by scene comparisons of both trailers. The plagiarism allegations have sparked significant online criticism. One user wrote “#Bollywood Wallas can only copy like the Chinese. They cannot create anything original.”

Adding to the film’s troubles, some users have resurfaced old photos and videos of Khan meeting Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdogan in 2020 during his visit to shoot portions of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha,’ which had previously generated controversy due to Turkey’s friendly relations with Pakistan. One user wrote, amid the tensions between India-Pakistan “Because Bollywood has no time for India and can’t hurt their Pakistani fans. No sympathy for these B@st@rds. No support to actor/ actress or any movies”. Another added “Oh, so Aamir Khan visits Turkey, chills with their First Lady while they bash India… And now he’s back with #SitaareZameenPar expecting applause? Nice try, but we don’t have short-term memory loss like Bollywood thinks.”
