Gayatri Hazarika, Voice Behind ‘Xora Pate Pate’, Passes Away At 44 After Battle With Cancer


Renowned Assamese singer Gayatri Hazarika passed away on Friday at the age of 44 at Nemcare Hospital, Guwahati, after a prolonged battle with colon cancer.

Dr. Hitesh Baruah, Managing Director of Nemcare Hospitals, confirmed the passing of Gayatri Hazarika to News Live, calling it a deeply saddening loss “It’s a very sad day for all of us. We have lost Gayatri Hazarika. She passed away at our hospital at 2:15 pm today. She was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment at our hospital. She was admitted three days ago after her condition deteriorated and had to be admitted to the ICU yesterday where she breathed her last.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter) via the official handle of CMO Assam.

“Her soulful voice and enduring contributions to Assamese music will always be remembered. HCM prayed for her eternal peace and extended heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family.”

Atul Bora, President of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and filmmaker and actor Aimee Baruah also paid tribute.

Gayatri rose to fame with her popular song “Xora Pate Pate Phagun Naame”, her voice is known for its sweetness and emotional depth, also gave life to tracks like “Tumi Kun Birohi Ananya”, “Jank Nasil Bonot”, “Xeuji Xopon”, among others. She was widely admired for her contributions to Assamese music as both a playback singer and live performer.
