Mithun Chakraborty In Trouble? BMC Flags Alleged Illegal Structure In Malad

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a show cause notice to veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty for allegedly constructing an unauthorized ground floor structure on a plot in Erangle village, Malad (Madh) in Mumbai.

According to civic authorities, the construction was undertaken without approval from the authority, violating multiple sections of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act of 1888, including Sections 337, 342, and 347. The BMC has invoked Section 351(1A) of the MMC Act to initiate action and has given Mithun seven days from May 10 to respond with a valid explanation.

The notice warns that failure to provide response could lead to the structure being demolished at the owner’s risk and expense, in addition to potential legal consequences under Section 475A, which carries penalties including fines and imprisonment.

“During inspections near Hira devi Mandir in Erangle village, two one-plus-mezzanine-storey buildings, one ground-floor structure, and three temporary units made from bricks, wood, glass, and AC sheets. These structures have been built on the area without taking permission from the competent authority, for which a show cause notice has been issued to the actor,” said civic sources.

BMC has also flagged over 130 unauthorised constructions in the Madh region where some of them are allegedly built using fake layout plans. Officials say that at least nine such structures were already demolished on May 9, and the goal is to clear all illegal constructions by May 31.

Responding to the allegations, Mithun Chakraborty told the Free Press Journal “I have no unauthorised structures. Notices have been sent to many, and we are sending our replies.”
