How The Late Singer Played Pivotal Role In Salman Khan’s Rise To Fame


SP Balasubramanyum is widely regarded as one of the greatest singers in the Indian music industry. From ‘Tere Mere Beech Mein’ to ‘Jaamu Raatiri’, he is the voice behind many iconic songs that are truly memorable. He stepped into the Hindi cinema with chartbuster song ‘Tere Mere Beech Mein’ and went on to sing many soulful songs. But many fans remember him for being the voice of Salman Khan as the duo gave many hits together. SP Balasubramayum indirectly contributed to Salman Khan’s success in the 90s.

The late singer became the playback singer for Salman Khan in the 1989 film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. The movie received praise not just for its performances and direction but also for its songs, which are iconic even today. SP Subrahmanyum even won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the film’s song ‘Dil Deewana’. The songs sung by Balasubrahmanyum for Salman Khan helped the actor establish himself as a romantic hero.

Later, the iconic duo teamed up for the hit songs like ‘Saathiya Tune Kya Kiya’, ‘Tumse Milne Ki Tamanna Hai’, ‘Joote De Do Paise Le Lo’, ‘Didi Tera Dewar Deewana’, ‘Lo Chali Main’, ‘Sajna Tere Bina Kya Jeena’ and many more.

Apart from sharing a great professional relationship, Balasubrahmanyum and Salman Khan also had a good personal bond. After the singer’s demise in 2020, Salman expressed his grief and remembered his legacy. He wrote on X, “Heartbroken to hear about S P Balasubrahmanyam sir… you will forever live on in your undisputed legacy of music! Condolence to the family #RIP.”

Beyond Hindi cinema, SP Balasubrahmanym is well respected in other Indian film industry as well. He sang several songs in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada.

He received numerous awards in his career. He won six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer, 25 Andhra Pradesh Nandi Awards, the NTR National Award, and the Harivarasanam Award from the Government of Kerala, He was also honoured with Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan.
