The tragic plane crash incident in Ahmedabad that took place on June 12 has shocked the nation and it is one of the deadliest aviation. In this tragedy, Gujarati filmmaker Mahesh Kalawadia, popularly known as Mahesh Jirawala, is feared to be among the victims of the crash.
Mahesh, a well known director and producer in the Gujarati film industry, was last known to be just 700 meters from the crash site. His family has submitted DNA samples to assist in identification, but confirmation is still awaited.
He was the founder of Mahesh Jirawala Productions, known for emotionally driven music videos and regional advertorials. His 2019 film Cocktail Premi Pag Of Revenge, starring Asha Panchal and Vruti Thakkar, received appreciation for its narrative depth and direction.
Mahesh was also a devoted family man, living with his wife Hetal and their two children in Naroda. Hetal shared that their last conversation took place at 1:14 PM just minutes before the crash. When she tried to reach him again, his phone was switched off. “His scooter and mobile phone are still missing,” she said. “And the last location we were able to trace was not a route he would ever take to return home. None of it makes sense.”
Speaking to the Press Trust of India (PTI), Hetal recounted the last conversation she had with her husband. “On June 12, Mahesh had gone to Law Garden to meet someone. He called me at 1:14 pm to say he was on his way back home,” she said. “I called him again at 1:40 pm, but his phone was switched off. That was just a minute after the plane took off from Ahmedabad airport.”
An Air India aircraft, on Thursday, crashed near Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport during takeoff. Around 242 people were on board and the police are currently investigating the incident. Among 242 passengers, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.
