Dipika Kakar, has finally broken her silence after undergoing a 14 hour surgery for stage 2 liver cancer. In her latest vlog, Dipika shared her painful journey, recalling the shock of diagnosis, the pain of separation from her son Ruhaan, and the unwavering support of her husband, Shoaib Ibrahim.
“Having my family, my son Ruhaan around, is making me feel much much better,” Dipika said in the video, thanking fans for their prayers. “Some of you did namaz for me, some of you performed special pujas for me, all this is very special for me.”
Dipika shared that her ordeal began when doctors discovered a tumour in her liver. After scans and tests, the tumour was confirmed to be malignant, and doctors advised immediate surgery. She recalled the emotional moment she and Shoaib broke down in the corridor of Kokilaben Hospital, after hearing the diagnosis.
Before the surgery, Dipika had to wean her infant son Ruhaan overnight, knowing her treatment would make breastfeeding impossible. “I was nervous about the surgery because our doctor had informed us that it is going to be a major one and the first thing I had to do was to wean off Ruhaan in one night. It was the most difficult thing that I faced in this entire month. I had no other option and I cried a lot that night. Of course I had to wean off but I did not know it would happen this way. Par jaise harr cheez mein ek accha reason chupa hota hai joh humein baad mein pata chalti hai yahan bhi wohi hua. Jab humein pata chala I’ve been diagnosed with second stage liver cancer, I was relieved that he was not on breastfeed because my treatment was starting and I would be on medication. Then my hospitalisation, staying away from him, especially he was away from me at night, all that was very difficult.”
Further in the vlog she opened up in about the heartbreaking moment she and Shoaib learned about her diagnosis. “I’ll always remember the corridor of Kokilaben hospital when we visited Dr. Somnath to show him my CT scan and by then the other reports had also come out, Shoaib was aware of it but he did not inform me about it. But when the doctor was checking the reports, I asked Shoaib about the results and he shared that things were not okay. When I saw the reports myself, I realised it was not okay. That moment, uss corridor mein khade rehkar we both broke down and Shoaib also broke down. Sabse pehle jab aapko ye shabdh pata chalta hai ke malignant hai or cancer hai, it creates fear in your mind. I just broke down and I hugged Shoaib tightly.”
For the unversed, Dipika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim got married in 2018 after dating for a few years. They also have a son named Ruhaan.
