Aamir Khan’s much anticipated Sitaare Zameen Par has finally hit theatres. The film focuses on specially abled children and features Aamir as a basketball coach. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film also stars Genelia D’Souza and introduces ten first time actors playing specially abled characters and is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones.
The film is receiving positive responses despite modest advance bookings. According to The Free Press Journal, film may collect Rs 9–10 crore on day one, with evening and night shows likely to push it beyond the Rs 10 crore mark.
Trade experts believe the film is likely to see a strong weekend surge, potentially earning Rs 40–45 crore in its first three days, if the momentum continues.
Aamir had also declined a massive Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video for the film’s OTT rights. According to trade analyst if the film fails to significantly increase footfalls in theatres, Aamir could suffer a loss of Rs 120 crore.
Aamir’s previous film, Laal Singh Chaddha, collected Rs 58.73 crore in its lifetime run.
