Stuntman Mohanraja aka Raju Dies While Shooting SUV Toppling Scene; AICWA Demands FIR Against Director Pa Ranjith

Renowned stuntman Mohanraja, also known as Raju, lost his life on July 13 while performing a car stunt for Pa Ranjith’s upcoming film Vettuvam, starring Arya. The accident occurred during a SUV toppling sequence in Vettuvam, Tamil Nadu. The vehicle lost balance mid-air and landed heavily on its front end.

Quick rescue attempts were made, but Raju couldn’t survive the injuries. Videos from the set have gone viral, sparking anger over the lack of safety during the film shoot.

AICWA Issues Statement

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has issued a strongly worded statement, blaming the production team for “criminal negligence” and demanding the following to the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri M. K. Stalin.

  1. Immediate registration of an FIR against producer Pa. Ranjith, all co-producers, and Neelam Productions under relevant sections for criminal negligence leading to death.
  2. A compensation of Rs 1 Crore to be paid to the family of the deceased stuntman Mohanraj by the producers.
  3. A state-wide investigation and audit of all film shooting sets across Tamil Nadu, to identify unsafe sets and take strict action against producers who fail to follow safety norms.

Actor Vishal, who worked with Raju on multiple films, took to X (formerly Twitter) to mourn the loss. “I have known Raju for so many years. He has done countless risky stunts in my films. My deepest condolences to his family. I promise to stand by them and offer my support,” he wrote.

Raju was celebrated in Kollywood for his fearless and precise stunt execution.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Keelaiyur Police Station, Tamil Nadu. As of now, neither Pa Ranjith nor Arya has issued a public statement.
