Who Was Ozzy Osbourne? Black Sabbath Singer And Prince Of Darkness Dies At 76


Renowned singer Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at 76. He had been reportedly diagnosed with several health issues over the past few years, but the cause of his death has not been disclosed yet. The tragic news of his demise was shared on his official social media pages. Known for his contribution to the heavy metal genre, he received the nickname ‘Prince Of Darkness’ from his fans and reached the peak of fame in the 1970s.

Who Was Ozzy Osbourne?

Ozzy Osbourne was the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. He released several critically acclaimed songs and albums, including ‘Never Say Die!’, ‘Paranoid’, ‘Master Of Reality’, ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’, ‘Blizzard Of Ozz’, ’13’, and many more

Amid all the fame and success, he was also involvedin several controversies. In 1979, he was removed from his band due to his alcoholism and problems with other drugs. In 1997, he rejoined the band and collaborated on albums with his fellow members.

Osbourne also received several awards in his long and successful career, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, UK Music Hall of Fame, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Ivor Novello Award, and Global Icon Award. He gave his last live performance on July 5, 2025, at the Back to the Beginning concert.

While sharing the heartbreaking news of his death, his family wrote on X, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

Several celebrities also paid tribute to the late singer and remembered his work. Actor Danny Trejo wrote, “Today we lost one of the wildest souls to ever walk this Earth. Ozzy wasn’t just The Prince of Darkness, he was pure light to those of us lucky enough to meet him. A heart bigger than any stage he ever rocked. My heart goes out to Sharon and the Kids. Save me a seat backstage up there, carnál. Love you forever.”

Black Sabbath’s guitarist Tony Lommi shared his disbelief on hearing the news of Ozzy’s demise. He wrote, “I just can’t believe it! My dear dear friend Ozzy has passed away only weeks after our show at Villa Park. It’s just such heartbreaking news that I can’t really find the words, there won’t ever be another like him. Geezer, Bill and myself have lost our brother. My thoughts go out to Sharon and all the Osbourne family. Rest in peace Oz. Tony.”
