Dhadak 2 Has The Lead Over Son Of Sardar 2 This Week

This Friday, the Karan Johar production of Dhadak, a love story of a caste-challenged boy and a high-caste girl, will hit theatres, denting the Saiyaara spell for the first time since its release.

Says Roshan Singh, a major exhibitor of Bihar, “Dhadak 2 is definitely going to affect the Saiyaara market. It is looking intense and relevant. Plus it has Karan Johar as producer. The main actors are looking well matched, and the songs are already a success.”

Son Of Sardar 2, on the other hand, seems to depend largely on Ajay Devgan’s connectivity with the audiences for impact.

A major trade analyst who doesn’t want to be named says there is only the comic factor in favour of Son Of Sardar 2. “If the audiences likes the comedy the film may also work. Otherwise there is no recall value for the product. The first part of Son Of Sardar came eleven years ago, and was hardly noticed. Why drag it into the franchise format so many years after it came and went?”

The first Son Of Sardar film was directed by Ashwini Dheer who has a proven track record in comedy films. The “sequel”, if we may call it that, is directed by cinematographer Vijay Kumar Arora who has almost no experience in Hindi filmmaking and has directed some Punjabi films earlier.

However, Devgan’s box office clout could do the trick of Son Of Sardar 2. Then, there is always part 3.
