Navratri Day 5: The auspicious nine-day festival of Navratri began on September 22 this year and will conclude on October 2, marking the end of the festival on Vijayadashami or Dussehra. The fifth day is dedicated to Maa Skandamata.

While the Sharadiya Navratri festival, dedicated to Goddess Durga, usually lasts for 9 days, this year, because the Tritiya tithi occurs over two days, Navratri will be celebrated for 10 days instead of 9. In 2025, Navratri began on 22 September, the first day (Pratipada) of the Shukla Paksha of the Ashwin month. The first day of Navratri was on 22 September, followed by the second day on 23 September.

The Tritiya tithi fell on 24 and 25 September, so on these two days, devotees worshipped Goddess Chandraghanta, the third form of Durga. On 26 September 2025, the fourth day of Navratri, Goddess Kushmanda, the fourth form of Durga, will be worshipped.

Devotees wake up early and wear new clothes in green colour to worship Maa Skandamata on the fifth day of Navratri. Prepare the puja items, light a diya at home or in the temple, and offer a garland to the Goddess. She especially loves red flowers.

You should offer bananas or sweets made of the same fruit to the goddess for bhog. Other than bananas, fruits and sweets can be offered to her. Puja samagri includes bananas, clove, incense, betel nut, paan, batasha, akshat, and red flowers.
