Delhi to roll out double-decker tourist buses, to link major heritage sites, check routes and fare here

New Delhi: The capital city, is all set to introduce a new sightseeing option for visitors with the launch of double-decker tourist buses later this month. This initiative, launched by the Delhi government, is going to link major heritage and cultural landmarks through a specially designed tourism circuit across the heart of the city.

The top officials said that this new service, likely to start in February, is being created primarily with tourists in mind, both domestic and international, with particular emphasis on the vista and national monuments in the area. The idea is to make some of Delhi’s most famous attractions accessible in a single route.

Tourist Service to Link Prominent Heritage Attractions

The mapped route will connect major tourist destinations in the national capital, including Bharat Mandapam, National War Memorial, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, Kartavya Path, and Dilli Haat. 

The new double-decker buses are set to transform city tours by giving passengers a higher vantage point, allowing clearer views of landmarks and grand avenues. Officials say the initiative is designed to make exploring the city more enjoyable, unhurried, and visitor-friendly. The officials further stated that the project seeks to present these landmarks as part of a unified tourism experience rather than isolated sites.

Apart from daytime operations, the tourism department is also working on evening sightseeing services. While the night-tour route has largely been finalised, details on operating hours are yet to be announced.

An electric double-decker bus, along with two other buses, is expected to roll out its services around February 20, aligning with the Delhi government’s first anniversary. The electric vehicle has been supplied by a private firm under its corporate social responsibility plan. Initially, it was located at Okhla under the transport department, but now it has been shifted to the tourism department.

Pricing Information

According to the news agency PTI, the ticket fare ranges from ₹500 for adults to ₹300 for children aged between six and twelve years. Additionally, the officials announced that the tour will begin from the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya and cover several major landmarks along the route
