The festival of Chhath turned fatal for a family in Lakhisarai (Bihar) after two of its members lost their lives in the avenge of a love affair. The two brothers aged 31 were shot at point-blank for not permitting marriage, while four have been injured and admitted to PMCH for proper treatment.
The incident took place in the Punjabi Mohalla, under the jurisdiction of the Kabaiya police station in the district. The tragic shooting occurred within a short distance from the residence of the family.
Police have identified the accused as Ashish Chaudhary and search raids are ongoing to arrest him. According to police, the accused who fired at point-blank range was denied permission to marry a girl from the victim’s family. That girl is also seriously injured and critical along with other members whereas the brothers Chandan Jha and Rajnandan Kumar succumbed to injuries.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community casting a pall of sorrow over what should have been a joyous conclusion to the Chhath Puja festivities. Police forces have reached the spot and an investigation into the matter is also underway as authorities strive to shed light on the perpetrators of the tragic incident and the unfortunate circumstances leading to it.
BJP has attacked the Bihar govt comprising of JD(U) and RJD and labeled this shoot in broad daylight as ‘jungle raaj’, a term usually quoted by political parties for RJD’s decades of governance.
