Mukhtar Ansari Fainted In Jail, Again Admitted To Hospital


Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari on Thursday again admitted to the Uttar Pradesh’s Banda Medical College after he fainted in jail following his health deteriorated, as per reports. Notably, He is serving life imprisonment in the Banda jail situated in Uttar Pradesh.

His lawyer, Naseem Haider, stated, “Upon receiving information of his arrival here, I have come to this location…”

Mukhtar Ansari, has been elected as a MLA from the Mau constituency five times, including twice as a candidate for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). His last participation in Assembly elections was in 2017.

There is total 60 pending cases against Ansari across the Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, New Delhi, and other states. On March 13, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case dating back to 1990, involving the use of forged documents to obtain an arms license. This marked the eighth conviction and subsequent sentencing by a court in Uttar Pradesh within the past two years.

The Varanasi MP/MLA court handed Ansari a life sentence under Sections 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, along with seven years under Sections 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC. Additionally, he was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment under Section 30 of the Arms Act.

The case, registered at Ghazipur’s Mohammadabad police station, accused Ansari and others of conspiring to obtain a license for a double-barrel gun using forged signatures of the then district magistrate and superintendent of police. Following the revelation of forgery, a case was filed in December 1990 against Ansari, the then-deputy collector, Gaurishankar Srivastava (then ordnance clerk), and four others. A charge-sheet in the case was filed in 1997 against Ansari and Gaurishankar Srivastava.
