Amid a political row over the ‘imposition of Hindi language’ in Tamil Nadu and other Southern states, Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu urged the people of Tamil Nadu to learn the Hindi language. The Zoho founder said it would make it feasible for the Tamilians to serve the markets of the northern belt like Delhi, Mumbai, and Gujarat.
In a post on X, Vembu wrote, “ As Zoho grows rapidly in India, we have rural engineers in Tamil Nadu working closely with customers in Mumbai and Delhi – so much of our business is driven form these cities and from Gujarat. Rural jobs in Tamil Nadu depend on us serving those customers well. Not knowing Hindi is often a serious handicap for us in Tamil Nadu. It is smart for us to learn Hindi. I have learned to read Hindi haltingly in the last 5 years and I can now understand about 20% of what is spoken.
As India is a fast growing economy, engineers and entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu will be smart to learn Hindi. Ignore the politics, let us learn the language! ஹிந்தி கற்றுக் கொள்வோம்! आइये हिंदी सीखें!”
Vembu said it is important for people living in rural areas of Tamil Nadu to learn the language as it would be a good business strategy in the fast-growing economy. He urged people to put the politics aside.
On Tuesday, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundarajan hit out at Chief Minister MK Stalin after a recent incident in which Hindi lettering on the name boards at a Railway station in Pollachi in Tamil Nadu allegedly by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) workers and said that the ruling party cannot encash on language politics anymore.
This comes amidst the ongoing row between the Centre and Tamil Nadu on the three-language National Education Policy (NEP).
On February 24, DMK cadres had staged a protest near the Trichy central bus stand in Tiruchirappalli against the Trilingual Language System in Tamil Nadu on Monday.
The protest saw party members distributing pamphlets to raise awareness among the public about their opposition to the move.
The protest was led by Trichy MLA M Anbazhagan and the DMK’s District Secretary Vairamani, who voiced their concerns regarding the alleged increasing push for Hindi in the state.
