A 23-year-old man has been detained by Delhi Police for blackmailing a woman using her personal pictures as leverage to publish them online. The suspect, identified as Madhav Singh, was arrested in Pratap Nagar, Amritsar, following a cybercrime investigation.
The police received a complaint from the victim at the Cyber Police Station, located in the North West District, after she met someone on social media. Through continuous digital contact, he obtained personal pictures from her profile and then started blackmailing her, demanding a payment of Rs 5 lakh.
The suspect threatened to post her images across the internet unless his financial demands were met. After receiving the complaint, the police registered a legal case under Sections 308(2) and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), initiating an official investigation. Authorities discovered that the accused had used multiple fake profiles on Instagram, making it impossible to contact him directly.
Police tracked his digital footprint using advanced cyber forensic techniques and eventually identified and apprehended him. During interrogation, Singh confessed to the crime, admitting that he engaged in such activities for amusement. Authorities have seized the mobile phone used in the offense. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to identify any additional victims or accomplices involved in similar cyber offenses.
