Under the Government of India’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana, economically disadvantaged citizens can receive free medical treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh. While this scheme has been implemented across various parts of India, it has yet to be introduced in Delhi. However, the government plans to roll it out soon, as per reports.
Delhi is set to sign an MoU with the National Health Authority to implement the Ayushman Bharat PM JAY Scheme on 18th March 2025, as per reports.
After securing a majority in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party formed the government. In its pre-election manifesto, the BJP had pledged to extend Ayushman Bharat benefits to Delhi residents. Under the proposed implementation, the free medical treatment coverage in Delhi will be doubled to Rs 10 lakh.
There is no official information on when Ayushman cards will be issued or when the program will begin in Delhi. The Delhi government has yet to make a formal statement on the matter. However, public speculation suggests that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta may soon announce major policy updates.
Ayushman Bharat allows beneficiaries to access free medical care worth up to Rs 5 lakh at healthcare facilities across India. Once implemented in Delhi, this benefit will increase to Rs 10 lakh, providing greater financial relief to residents.
