Delhi Woman Arrested For Bringing Loaded Pistol To Vaishno Devi Shrine News24 –


A Delhi-based woman was arrested for allegedly carrying a loaded pistol at the Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. 

The police said the woman, who has been identified as Jyoti Gupta, was found with the weapon and six rounds at a checkpoint near the Bhawan. The incident happened on the intervening night of March 14 and 15. The woman claimed that she was a retired police constable.

The police officials said that the licence of the pistol expired two years ago. The police have registered an FIR and launched a probe into the matter. 

Earlier, a man from Uttar Pradesh was booked after two cartridges were found in his bag near the Bhawan. 

On March 17, Bollywood socialite  Orhan Awatramani (Orry) and seven others were booked for allegedly consuming alcohol near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. 

Reasi SSP Paramvir Singh addressed the matter, reaffirming the town’s strict prohibition against alcohol consumption.

Singh stated, “Katra is a holy town, and according to a notification by the sub-divisional magistrate, alcohol consumption and sale is prohibited in the town… Taking cognizance of this notification, we have registered a complaint and started an investigation.”

Emphasizing the seriousness of the issue, he added, “Our policy is clear that such prohibited actions are subjected to strict action, no matter who does this. The investigation is underway and notices will be issued as per the laws to those responsible and they will be summoned for cooperation.”
