The Noida Authority and the traffic police have started the installation of a 50-meter-long steel girder on the Bhangel elevated route. Due to this commuters will be facing a month-long traffic diversion. The girder will be installed across the Bhangel-to-Barola road section, leading to significant traffic disruption from at least three directions. To manage expected congestion and ensure highway safety, several internal roads in nearby residential sectors have been designated for vehicle diversion.
According to the Noida Authority, the previous steel girder installation in the opposite direction from Barola to Bhangel marked the final construction stage of that segment. The Barola crossing serves as a crucial junction in Noida’s transportation network, providing Sector 76 access to Haji[ur underpass, which connects commuters to the Noida Expressway, Botanical Garden Metro station, and the NSEZ (National Special Economic Zone).
About The Diversion Plan
The diversion plan allows vehicles travelling from the Hajipur underpass toward Sector 76 to use the internal route in Sector 47. Motorists heading from Sector 76 to the Hajipur underpass will need to make a left turn at Barola T-point. The route connecting the Botanical Garden to the NSEZ through sector roads is already heavily congested, and the diversion may worsen conditions on these internal roads.
As quoted by the Times of India, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lakhan Yadav Singh stated “We have decided to divert the traffic to sectors’ internal roads. The commuters are advised to cooperate and also use alternate routes to avoid jams.”
Despite sponsorship from different sources, several organizational problems delayed the construction of this road project. Although it was initiated in 2013, the project officially received its start date in June 2020, along with funding of Rs 468 crore. The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Ltd (UPSBCL) which is responsible for completing the project, failed to meet its first target date of December 2022. The updated schedule for completion ran from December 2023 through December 31, 2024.
