The Shahberi Road expansion project in Greater Noida West is progressing at a significantly delayed pace. The construction is now expected to take around two months to complete. The Greater Noida Authority has deployed a minimal workforce for the road widening, which is contributing to the slow progress. The lack of personnel available for work will extend the anticipated duration of the project, as reported by Junaid Akhtar.
Work Ongoing At The Entry Gate Of Greater Noida West
On Saturday, twenty-five laborers were working at the entry gate of Greater Noida West. The Road widening is being carried out alongside drainage construction on both sides of the road. An official working at the site, who spoke on condition of anonymity, reported that the ongoing work stretches from the drainage point towards crossing Republic.
Work Unlikely To Be Completed In 20 Days
The expansion of the Shahberi Road began on March 25. An official from Greater Noida Authority had claimed that the project would be completed within 20 days. A site official stated that the work will take longer than anticipated, with completion expected in about two months.
Residents Forced To Take A 6-Kilometer Detour
The housing societies of Balaji Enclave and Vrindavan Garden, located along Shahberi Road, collectively house more than 20,000 residents. Due to the ongoing construction, the society gates remain closed, forcing residents to take a six-kilometer detour to reach Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. Previously, the commute required only 500 meters of travel when the road was accessible.
Cause Of Traffic Jams
The reported width of Shahberi Road, stretching from the roundabout to Crossing Republik, is currently three meters. Shahberi Road operates with only one traffic lane, which causes regular backups. Entry gates at both ends remain closed due to traffic diversions. The local community supports opening one side of the road to vehicles to help reduce traffic jams.
Residents Block Road in Protest
Residents of Balaji Enclave blocked the road on Friday evening. A man driving his pregnant wife to the hospital encountered a closed gate near Golf Homes Society in Greater Noida West later that evening. The situation escalated, drawing other residents to the scene in protest. Police officers arrived soon after and removed the barricade, allowing the vehicle to pass.
Authority Claims Work Is Going Fast
A.K. Singh, General Manager of Projects at the Greater Noida Authority, claims that the road widening work on Shahberi Road is progressing rapidly. He said that the project is being executed according to the scheduled timeline and, once completed, will relieve people from traffic congestion.
