Police on Wednesday arrested a woman who eloped with her daughter’s fiancé just a week before the wedding in Aligarh. They both were held from Nepal border after gherao by the police. Search operation was launched after they both went missing on April 10. Police couldn’t catch them earlier as their mobiles were off. However, on Tuesday, when the boy switched on his phone, police traced his location leading to their arrest. Coincidentally, they got arrested in the same day when the daughter’s wedding date was fixed (April 16).

What Did The Woman Reveal?

It is being reported that the woman has made shocking revelation during police interrogation. The woman stated that her daughter’s marriage was fixed with Rahul, but a few days after this, her husband started suspecting her.

She said that her husband used to beat her under the influence of alcohol accusing her of having an illicit relationship with Rahul. She tried to convince him many times, but he did not believe. The woman further said that fed up with the allegations and circumstances, she shared her problems with Rahul. And after this, they both decided to run away from home.

She Is Adamant On Staying Together

Both of them have been brought to Aligarh police station, where their families are present. However, both of them are still adamant on staying together. A large number of people are also present outside the police station.

About The Aligarh Case

The woman identified as Anita Devi had left her home with jewellery and cash to run away with the man, stated the Aligarh Police. Her daughter’s wedding was set to take place on April 16. In the police investigation, it was revealed that Anita Devi had been secretly planning to run away with Rahul. The incident came to light when her family reported her missing. The report was filed by her husband Jitendra Kumar.

Her husband, Jitendra Kumar, earlier expressed shock and confusion over the incident. He stated that his wife had been preparing for their daughter’s wedding. She was in regular contact with him until 10:30 am on the day she disappeared. He recounted the events of the last day before she went missing. Jitendra said that both her phone and the groom’s phone were found switched off.

Jitendra said, “My daughter’s wedding was scheduled for April 16, and my wife had been preparing for it. On the day she left, she told me to visit her sister’s place at 10 am. When I returned home at 8:30 pm, I found that she had been gone since 4:30 am. We searched for her everywhere, but couldn’t find any clues. We then reported her missing to the police. I was in regular contact with her until 10:30 am, but after that, both her phone and the groom’s phone were switched off. I’m shocked and have no idea where she is or who she’s with.”

Circle Officer of Iglas, Mahesh Kumar earlier said, “A case has come to light in which the applicant’s wife Anita went away without informing anyone, taking the jewellery and money kept in the house. On investigation, it was found that the applicant’s daughter’s marriage was scheduled to take place on 16 April 2025 with Rahul, a youth resident of the Dadon police station area. Before the marriage, the applicant’s wife, Anita Devi, was found to have gone with Rahul. In connection with the following case, a case has been registered in the Madrak police station area, and a team has been formed for search.”
